Ironman meet Rob

If someone would of told me last year that I would be enrolled in the Penticton Ironman for 2012 I would just laughed. First of all my Passion is rock climbing and I'm not really a cardio kind of guy. This Blog is about that transition from Rock climber to Ironman.

It all started in 2010 with my daugther Natalie who met her recent boyfriend Rob. Rob's name really isn't Rob, however we will use this name to conceal his true identity. Rob was into sports that we as a family had never really participated in. Rob did triathlons, Rob did running races, Rob did skate skiing, Rob was my hero, I wanted to be like Rob. Well it didn't really start like that. Rob got Natalie into cross country skiing, then Natalie got Jerimie and Josee into cross country skiing and then, that was it, I had to get into cross country skiing and then my wife joined in. All this was fun at first but Rob had skate skies and was obviously much faster than all of us. Hence the investment in skate skies. At this point the next logical step was to join the PG iceman. The whole thing was a little intimidating so we decided to compete as a family. Yours truly was on the skate skies, Natalie on the 10km run, Nathaniel on the 600m skate, Josee on the 5km run and myself on the 600m swim. Now you have to remember that I had never swam before, this was my first crack at the swimming in any competition. After all was said and done we did pretty good for our first time at competing and it was a good family bonding experience and this is where it all began. That day with the addition of a crappy climbing season lead me to triathlons and bike racing...of course Rob was there with me.
